Loan Demand Turns Volatile as Rates Rise

Following a recent surge in loan demand, mortgage applications inched back down in the latest week as mortgage rates continued to climb. Total mortgage applications – for both refinancings and home purchases – dropped 5.5 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis for the week ending June 12, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported Wednesday.
